The China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) has completed the construction of the first-ever Rolling Stock Rail-Wagon Assembly Plant in Nigweia located in Kajola, Ogun State.
The plant, which was commissioned in 2019 by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, is expected to produce wagons for the Lagos-Ibadan and Abuja-Kaduna standard gauge trains and provide wagon services to the sub-region.
Announcing the completion on his social media handles on Thursday, a Chinese journalist, and political and economic commentator, Shen Shiwei, emphasized the significance of the plant.
He explained that it would offer an essential platform for technicians, artisans, and others to gain specialized skills for the production and maintenance of rolling stocks. This initiative will help to create job opportunities and improve the technological capacity of the region.
The completed rail-wagon plant represents a significant milestone in the development of the rail industry in West Africa.
This new facility will support the Nigerian government’s efforts to improve the country’s infrastructure and transportation networks, which will ultimately benefit the economy and its people. With the successful completion of the plant, the CCECC has demonstrated its commitment to fostering cooperation and promoting economic growth in Nigeria and West Africa.
