DR Congo Factions Commit ‘Horrific Abuses’ – Amnesty and HRW

Two new reports, from Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, has shed new light on the violence in the eastern part of the country, with both the Rwandan-backed M23 rebels and the Wazalendo – a loose coalition of armed groups backed by the Congolese army – being accused of widespread human rights abuses, including gang rape.
The reports document how M23 fighters killed civilians, attacked hospitals and abducted patients, as well as tortured and forcibly disappeared civil society members.
