U.S. Court Jails Nigerians Over Covid-19 Fraud Scheme

Three Nigerian men have been sent to prison in the U.S. for their roles in a Covid-19 unemployment fraud scheme that led to the theft of $520,910 from state and federal programs. They are reported to have conspired with others outside the U.S. to steal 168 unemployment insurance debit cards and PINs between August and October 2020
The men then filed fraudulent unemployment claims, and the benefits were loaded onto the cards. The cards were used to make hundreds of ATM withdrawals in and around Indianapolis, “often within minutes of each other”.
