Accra-Ghana: PICCASO Awards Africa 2025, Trumpets the Digital Revolution Uniting and Empowering Africa’s Pioneers

In Accra – Ghana, a laudation of Africa’s digital pioneers in a digital civic-event, is counting down to a landmark moment, as the inaugural PICCASO Awards Africa prepares to make its debut on Wednesday, 3 December 2025, at the iconic Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra. More than an awards ceremony, the event pictures Africa’s growing confidence in shaping its own digital future, grounded in digital security opulence, inclusive services, rights, persistent digital novelty and responsible innovation.

The PICCASO Awards Africa 2025 will shine a spotlight on the continent’s most influential voices and visionaries in data protection, privacy, cybersecurity, fintech, digital governance, etc. The paraded honourees represent a new generation of African innovators, building secure digital services, defending critical online systems, innovating digital inclusion channels and ensuring that as Africa goes digital, no community is left behind.

Organised by PICCASO in partnership with the Africa Digital Rights Hub (ADRH), the awards are part of ADRH’s flagship Data Protection Africa Summit, one of the continent’s most important platforms for dialogue on digital rights. Leaders from government, civil society, startups and major technology firms, will gather to celebrate achievements and debate the policies, partnerships, investments amongst more, issues required to strengthen Africa’s digital transformation.

Hovering the glamour of the event night, the awards ceremony will convey profound network of social and political significance. Recognising the African digital community as a strong-engine powering the e-socioculture, e-organised-private-sector, and impacting millions of Africans who now rely on digital platforms for education, work, healthcare, transportation, commerce, civic participation, social-connections, communication, etc. Even though this rapid digital shift in Africa holds some challenges like online-child-sexual-exploitation/abuse, education-shunting, privacy risks, cyberthreats, cyberbully, sextortion threats, cyber-libeling, widening skill gaps, etc., the plausible impact is enormously outweighing across board. Moreover, the PICCASO Awards place these challenging issues at the centre of the conversation, emphasizing on the practitioners/stakeholders to make digital progress in addressing these issues and more.

In capturing this spirit of purpose, the Executive Director of ADRH – Teki Akuetteh noted – “The PICCASO Awards Africa spotlight the visionaries advancing innovation, embedding sustainable technology practices; and safeguarding the systems, identities and data at the core of Africa’s digital economy. These awards celebrate excellence and the individuals shaping Africa’s digital future”.

However, in some administrators’ views, the awards highlight the urgent need for robust governance frameworks that protect citizens and strengthen cross-border digital cooperation. While in regards to businesses, they offer a reminder that trust and compliance are now competitive advantages. On the divide of demography, young innovators would see this event as a proof that Africa’s tech ecosystem is increasingly being driven by homegrown talent, capable of global impact.

Furthermore, as Africa enters a decisive phase in its digital evolution, the PICCASO Awards Africa is positioned to accelerate regional collaboration, investment, skills development, robust networking and digital sustainability, while amplifying Africa’s voice on the global stage.
