Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, announced plans to dedicate the majority of his wealth to advancing health and education across Africa over the next two decades. Speaking in Addis Ababa, the 69-year-old philanthropist emphasized that investing in these sectors is key to unlocking human potential and driving prosperity throughout the continent.

He encouraged Africa’s young innovators to harness artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance healthcare delivery. Gates, who has pledged to donate 99% of his fortune—a decision influenced by Warren Buffett and others—said he hopes to be remembered not for his wealth, but for how it was used.

He also commended African governments that prioritize citizens’ health and urged greater investment in primary healthcare. According to the Gates Foundation, its top goals include preventing maternal and infant deaths, eradicating deadly infectious diseases for future generations, and helping lift millions out of poverty.
