Chad Suspends U.S. Visas in Retaliation for Trump Travel Ban

Chadian President Mahamat Deby has suspended the issuance of visas to U.S. citizens in a move he described as “reciprocal,” following the inclusion of Chad in a new U.S. travel ban.
Under the order announced by President Donald Trump, nationals from 12 countries—seven of them African—are barred from entering the United States, with additional visa restrictions placed on several others. Trump defended the decision as a necessary step to protect the country from terrorism and security threats.
In response, the African Union Commission warned that the U.S. government’s unilateral travel restrictions on African nations could jeopardize long-standing diplomatic ties with the continent.
