Nigeria women’s basketball team – D’Tigress, delivered a commanding performance on Thursday, crushing Cameroon 83-47 to secure a spot in the semi-finals of the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket. The match took place at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
This emphatic victory marks Nigeria’s sixth consecutive appearance in the semi-finals of the tournament. A streak that began in 2013, further solidifying their status as the dominant force in African women’s basketball.
From the opening whistle, the defending champions imposed their will on the Cameroonian side. They raced to a 21-9 lead in the first quarter and extended their advantage to 41-29 by halftime. However, it was in the third quarter that D’Tigress truly showcased their superiority, outscoring Cameroon 25-2 in a devastating display of defense and offensive precision.
By the final buzzer, Nigeria had sealed a 36-point blowout win, leaving no doubt about their intent to defend their title.
Amy Okoronkwo led all scorers with 18 points, while Victoria Balogun and Nicole Enabosi each contributed 12 points to the dominant team effort.
With this victory, Nigeria advances to a high-stakes semi-final clash against rivals Senegal on Saturday, as they continue their quest for a fifth consecutive Afrobasket championship.
