No subject was off limits when Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye met with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace on Wednesday. The meeting came after France closed its last remaining military bases in the West African country, ending more than six decades of presence there.

The two leaders are reported to have discussed the 1944 massacre of Senegalese soldiers by French troops at Thiaroye near Dakar, with Faye insisting on the full release of military and judicial archives on the scale of the killings.

The Dakar-Diamniadio express project, a modern transport system connecting the capital Dakar with regional cities, which has been a source of economic dispute between the two countries, was also on the table.
