A local rights group has said there were more than 3000 victims of abuses across Zimbabwe in August, bringing the country’s human rights record under renewed scrutity. In its latest report, the Zimbabwe Peace Project said at least 121 incidents were documented, with women and people with disabilities disproportionately affected.

The victims endured threats of violence, harassment, forced displacement and unfair denial of services. The report highlighted politically motivated violence, singling out the ruling  ZANU-PF as the chief perpetrator responsible for nearly “half of all violations”.

The rights group also blames traditional leaders, local authorities, the police and school officials of “state-linked complicity.”
