Nigerian Opposition Politician Peter Obi Promises One Term

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has said if elected during the country’s next presidential poll in 2027, he will serve a single four-year term. In a post on X (formerly twitter), Obi said “longevity in office is not a mark of success,” citing several prominent global figures, including former U.S president Abraham Lincoln and Nelson Mandela of South Africa, who he said left enduring legacies despite their relatively short tenures.
“History shows that the longer many African leaders remain in power, the more likely they are to be corrupted by it,” Obi wrote.
