Police in Cameroon have concluded a two-day surveillance operation at an apartment complex in Douala where opposition leader Maurice Kamto was staying following his return from a political rally in France that drew the ire of the ruling party.

Human rights organizations have criticized the increasing repression of dissent, especially as parliamentary elections have now been delayed until 2026.
