President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Transformative Housing Programme in Northern Nigeria

The Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Housing Programme is reshaping communities and livelihoods across Northern Nigeria, with over 6,000 new homes under construction and thousands of jobs created, according to the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.
Speaking at a two-day interactive session hosted by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna, Dangiwa described the initiative as more than a housing drive, framing it as a catalyst for economic empowerment, social stability, and community renewal under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We are not just building houses; we are rebuilding lives, restoring dignity, and laying the foundation for a more secure and prosperous North,” the minister said.
Major Housing Milestones
The Ministry’s three-pronged housing strategy is delivering integrated urban communities complete with roads, water supply, solar-powered street lighting, and essential social amenities. Key developments include:
- Renewed Hope City, Karsana, FCT – 3,112 housing units
- Kano City Project – 1,500 housing units
- 250-unit estates in Katsina, Gombe, Yobe, Sokoto, Benue, and Nasarawa States
In addition, the Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme is targeting 100 affordable homes in each of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
Economic and Job Impact
The housing programme has created over 152,000 direct and indirect jobs across the North. Local artisans and youth are benefiting significantly, with many earning up to ₦150,000 monthly. To cut building costs and strengthen local industry, the Ministry is also investing in building materials manufacturing hubs.
Housing for Conflict Victims
Through the Resettlement Scheme for Persons Impacted by Conflict (RSPIC), the Ministry is providing shelter for victims of terrorism and banditry. The pilot phase in Tudun Biri, Kaduna State—site of the December 2023 accidental military airstrike—will deliver 252 homes across seven northern states, including Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, Niger, Benue, and Sokoto.
“This is housing as healing, helping families affected by conflict reclaim stability and hope,” Dangiwa emphasised.
Urban Renewal and Social Infrastructure
The Ministry has completed over 150 slum upgrade projects and is currently working on more than 100 others in key communities such as Tudun Wada (Sokoto), Yankaba (Kano), and Tunga (Niger State).
Under its Special Projects Unit, the government has delivered:
- 71 classrooms
- 15 primary health centres
- 58 boreholes
- 63 rural access roads
These projects, valued at over ₦61 billion, have generated more than 10,700 jobs nationwide.
Future Plans
Dangiwa announced upcoming expansions of the programme to more northern states, the full rollout of the 774-LGA social housing scheme, broader access to single-digit mortgages and rent-to-own financing, and the establishment of additional building material hubs to enhance affordability and self-reliance.
“This is more than infrastructure. It’s a renewal of trust in government and a practical demonstration that President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is delivering real change,” Dangiwa concluded.
