A total of 300 agreements covering various sectors have been signed at the ninth edition of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development takign place in Japan, including in infrastructure development, health, technology, education, and agriculture. The annual event brings together African leaders and their Japanese counterparts to discuss mutual cooperation and trade.
During a session on Thursday, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said what the continent needs is partnership, “not aid”. He called for a “reimagined” relationship between Africa and Japan that emphasizes “shared prosperity rather than handouts”.
The Nigerian delegation also used the opportunity to lobby for seats at global institutions, including the UN Security Council and the International Court of Justice.
