Tortured and Abused – Mwangi, Atuhaire Tell of Tanzania Detention

Kenyan pro-democracy activist Boniface Mwangi and Ugandan journalist Agather Atuhaire have shared disturbing accounts of the abuse they endured while in Tanzania, where they had traveled to attend the treason trial of opposition leader Tundu Lissu.
Speaking publicly for the first time on Monday, Mwangi revealed he was arrested on May 19 following threats and intimidation by Tanzanian security forces. Atuhaire was detained shortly after.
Mwangi described their experience as deeply traumatic, involving humiliating interrogations, physical assaults, and severe acts of sexual violence.
