The CEO of Ethiopia Electric Power, Asheber Balcha,\u00a0has accused Egypt of “scrambling to create obstacles” ahead of the\u00a0launch\u00a0of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, Africa’s largest hydroelectric power project. It’s been a\u00a0source of controversy\u00a0in the region, with Egypt and other neighboring states relying heavily on the Nile River on which the dam is built.<\/p>\n
Balcha’s statement comes as diplomatic tensions have grown in the past few weeks. During a visit to Uganda, Egypt’s foreign minister said his country has got “existential concerns” about “water security” and will pursue “all necessary measures under international law”.<\/p>\n
