Former President Joseph Kabila has reportedly traveled to Goma, a city in eastern DRC currently controlled by M23 rebels. Corneille Nangaa, the political leader of AFC\/M23, welcomed Kabila\u2019s return in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the former president “made the right choice” by returning rather than staying in what he described as “forced exile.”<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Democratic Republic of Congo\u2019s Senate has overwhelmingly voted to revoke Kabila\u2019s honorary immunity amid allegations of his support for the Rwanda-backed M23 group, which has taken control of parts of the country\u2019s mineral-rich eastern region.<\/p>\n
Out of the total, 88 senators supported lifting his immunity, while five voted against and three abstained. President F\u00e9lix Tshisekedi has accused Kabila\u2014who has been abroad since 2023\u2014of collaborating with M23 to undermine national stability.
