The\u00a0September 12\u00a0statement by the Quartet countries\u00a0– the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt – following a meeting in Washington, DC, “has stirred-up the desire of the Sudanese people to bring peace to the country,”\u00a0says Dabanga journalist\u00a0Abdelmoneim Madibo.\u00a0“The statement pointed out that there is no military solution to the war in Sudan,”\u00a0Madibo reports,\u00a0and “called for a humanitarian truce for three months, followed by a permanent ceasefire, followed by the launch of an inclusive and transparent transition process that will culminate within nine months with the establishment of an independent civilian government based on legitimacy.”<\/p>\n
“This Quad position fully aligns with the African Union and IGAD Roadmaps for peace in Sudan,” the\u00a0African Union and the regional grouping IGAD said in a\u00a0joint press release.<\/p>\n
