Cameroon has\u00a0marked five years\u00a0since the violent repression of protests organised by the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC) in September 2020.<\/p>\n
More than 500 people were\u00a0arbitrarily arrested, and 36 remain imprisoned in Yaound\u00e9’s Kondengui prison.\u00a0The opposition supporters, including senior figures Alain Fogu\u00e9 and Olivier Bibou Nissack, were sentenced by a military court to between five and seven years for “rebellion” and “attempted insurrection.”<\/p>\n
Amnesty International has\u00a0condemned\u00a0the detentions as arbitrary, calling for their immediate release and criticising the use of military courts to try civilians.
