Adeleke, the ‘Crown-Overcomes’, Osun Gives Incumbent a Second-Term Mandate

The streets of Osun State is erupting in celebration as Governor Ademola Adeleke emerges victorious in the 2026 governorship election, securing a second term after a closely watched contest/uploading results that tested the strength of the incumbent administration against a determined All Progressives Congress (APC) challenge.  

Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, born on May 13, 1960, is a Nigerian politician and businessman who has previously represented Osun West Senatorial District in the Senate from 2017 to 2019, and currently an incumbent administrator of Osun State since 2022. By the 15th/August/2026 Osun State gubernatorial election and the already IReV uploaded results, it is indicating that the ‘Crown-Overcomes’.

The victory marks another significant chapter in Adeleke’s political journey. In 2018, he narrowly lost the governorship race to Gboyega Oyetola after a fiercely contested election and rerun. Four years later, Adeleke returned to defeat Oyetola and became governor. His latest victory-greenlight with 95% from the uploaded results, gives him hope of another four years to consolidate his administration’s agenda.

The election was particularly notable because the three leading contenders – Adeleke of the Accord Party, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji and African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Najeem Salaam, are from Osun West Senatorial District, which turned the contest into a major political battle within the same expansive political constituency.

From Ede to Osogbo, the celebration spreads. At Ward 2, Unit 9, Abegunde Compound in Ede North, Adeleke’s home base, supporters celebrated his strong performance. The result became an emotional moment for residents who see the election beyond being a political contest, to a verdict on the direction of their communities. The excitement is blasting in a fest of party-colours on voters. Across towns and villages, the election should be revamping conversations about creation of jobs, roads, schools, healthcare, small businesses, agriculture, the cost of living, etc., issues that determine whether political victories translate into better lives at the grassroots.

The trader opening her stall in Ede, the young graduate looking for work in Osogbo, the farmer in Iwo seeking better access to markets, or the artisan hoping for affordable finance, the real meaning of this second term, will ultimately be evaluated in the nearest future by the practical improvements of socioeconomic interfaces. Supposedly, that is where Adeleke’s next challenge might begin from. Osun State people looking a second mandate with high economic expectations.

A second term would give the governor an opportunity to move from electoral promises to serious economic consolidation. Like many Nigerian states, Osun needs an economy that creates opportunities surpassing government’s employment. A widespread of formidable macro/micro enterprises sector. More entrance of foreign investment, manufacturing establishments and so on. The administration will definitely face pressure to attract private investment, expand support for MSME businesses, strengthen agriculture/agro-processing, improve infrastructure and create an enabling environment where young people can find productive work, marshal-out their enterprises, drive macro/micro employments, etc., without leaving the state, in the coming days ahead.

Nonetheless, one might say the potential benefits would be substantial, as the ‘Crown-Overcomes’. Better roads could reduce the cost of moving farm produce. Reliable public infrastructure can encourage businesses to expand. Skills’ programmes and training schemes can help upscale Osun State human capital index; young people could enter trades and technology-related industries productively, while stronger agricultural value chains can allow farmers to earn more from what they produce, supplying sufficient food for the state and nation. On this note, Osun’s communities will embrace economic development as most meaningful when it starts impacting their various family compounds, market stalls, workshops, pockets and farms in this directions. So, this political victory in view, is as much as a social responsibility too.

The IReV uploaded results are also carrying a bigger political message. Adeleke ‘Crown-Overcomes’ by being re-elected, demonstrates the power of incumbency when a government works, impact’s lives, succeeds in maintaining sufficient grassroots connection and has gained electoral support. But as earlier expressed, victory at the ballot box is only the beginning. The governor would now inherit a responsibility to govern beyond party lines and political loyalties. Those who voted for him will expect delivery; those who voted against him will equally expect delivery too, fairness, security and access to government services. This means that a 2nd term will not be judged by the past campaign rallies, but by visible results in everyday life in Osun State.

From the uploaded results on IReV, it shows that Adeleke maintained a lead as results were collated across the state’s 30 local government areas. Although there were also reports of vote-buying allegations, logistical difficulties, BVAS problems and isolated violence during the exercise. However, INEC would subsequently declare Adeleke the winner after the final collation, statin his defeat of Oyebamiji and the other candidates. And the CROWN will officially have won; then work will continue for another 1460 days again, after inauguration.

Adeleke’s second electoral triumph is undoubtedly a political milestone. Still, we all will be holding forth to see the greater practical-experiential-stories that will be coming after the celebrations, for the people of Osun State. The incumbent governor now has another term line of opportunities, to make government more responsive to both the grassroots and all. The election has delivered the CROWN. Osun’s people/Nigerians will now be watching how it will be worn deliver expectations to the ordinary people of State.

However, regardless of the weight of political influence and the intensity of partisan contests, a CROWN remains a powerful symbol of sovereignty, authority and eminence. It represents the highest point of nobility; the pinnacle to which others look and bow in recognition of legitimate leadership. And in the political landscape of Osun State, the ‘CROWN that COMES’ can therefore be seen as a metaphor of the ultimate prize for the peak of the political-mountain, where influence, authority and public responsibility converge on seat.

Likewise, the CROWN is more than a symbol of victory. It carries the burden of leadership and the expectations of those governed. To wear it, is to occupy the state’s highest seat and be able to accept the Osun people’s demands, scrutiny and responsibilities that come with it.

Thus, in the contest for political-supremacy, many may wield influence, titles and formidable networks. But ultimately, the crown belongs to the one who had had the wearing-authority by birth – 13/05/60.
