Africa Day 2025 – Seeking Justice For Africans Around The World

The 62nd Africa Day, commemorating the founding of the Organization of African Unity—now the African Union since 2002—was celebrated with events across the continent and globally under the theme Justice for Africans and People of African Descent.
In Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi hosted representatives from over 50 African countries, using the occasion to praise the enduring strength of China-Africa ties.
Meanwhile, in Johannesburg, over a hundred activists took part in a solidarity walk, holding banners in support of various causes, including demands for democracy in Swaziland, peace in Palestine, and an end to coal dependence in South Africa. Participants also voiced opposition to authoritarianism in parts of Africa.
In Ghana, President John Mahama called on African leaders, civil society, and the diaspora to unite in pursuit of justice for Africans and people of African descent. He emphasized that the enduring effects of slavery, colonialism, and neo-colonialism continue to hinder progress and must be addressed.
