The intersection of heritage, diplomacy, and creativity witnessed on June 10th, an extraordinary milestone with the official launch of the II Ghana-Peru Arts Contest. Hosted as a brilliant collaborative initiative by the Embassy of Peru in Ghana and the Honorary Consulate of Peru in Tema, the launch event was an inspiring testament to the power of cross-border collaboration.

This phenomenal platform bridges the gap between distinct artistic ecosystems, opening doors of global exposure and hands-on capacity building for young visual artists. For everyone present, the atmosphere was a beautiful reminder of how art serves as a universal language that can transcend borders, unite diverse communities, and architect entirely new cultural narratives. Nurturing this emerging talent remains a core mission for Global Art Connect as we strive to push creative boundaries and empower future global leaders.

A Distinguished Gathering of Cultural and Diplomatic Leaders

The launch of this historic second edition was graced by an extraordinary assembly of leaders across diplomacy, governance, and the arts, all gathered to show their solidarity for emerging talent.

The evening commenced with an inspiring welcome address by the Ambassador of Peru to Ghana, Her Excellency Rosa Liliana Gómez Cárdenas de Weston. In her remarks, she emphasized the deepening bonds of friendship and cultural exchange uniting the two nations. H.E. Rosa Liliana Gómez de Weston also took center stage for the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon/sword, officially declaring the contest open to the next generation of Ghanaian storytellers.

The event drew high-profile representation from across the core ecosystems of the creative industry and state governance:

  • State & Film Governance: Representatives from the National Film Authority (NFA) were in attendance, highlighting the strategic alignment of visual arts training with industry-ready cinematic practices.
  • Traditional Leadership: Personalities from the Chieftaincy and traditional rulers graced the occasion, anchoring the contemporary celebration firmly in cultural heritage and prestige.
  • Institutional Art Leadership: Leadership and members from the Ghana Association of Visual Artists (GAVA) were present in full force to support the growth of the community.
  • Industry Legends & Academia: The gathering brought together legendary icons of the Ghanaian arts scene, alongside key voices from academia and a massive turnout of active creative industry practitioners.

The presence of these diverse stakeholders underscored a shared commitment to building capacity, fostering global bridges, and ensuring that our youth have the institutional backing to excel on the world stage.

Guarding Excellence: The Distinguished Jury

To ensure the highest standard of evaluation and artistic excellence, an elite panel of industry heavyweights has been assembled to oversee the submissions. The five distinguished judges tasked with reviewing the upcoming masterpieces are:

  1. Joanna Boampong – Bringing profound academic, cultural, and institutional insight.
  2. Kofi Agorsor – Legendary visual artist and master of vibrant, soulful expression.
  3. Yaw Safori – A powerhouse of contemporary artistic vision and technique.
  4. Dela Avemega – Celebrated creative force pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling.
  5. Prince Kojo-Hilton – Multi-award-winning Production Designer, Art Director, and Visual Artist.

With an evaluation panel of this caliber, participants are guaranteed an invaluable opportunity to have their work appraised by some of the most influential minds in the creative industry today.

The Official Guidelines & Call for Submissions

For emerging creatives looking to step onto this prestigious stage, the official updated parameters and submission guidelines have been formally released:

  • The Theme: Friendship between Ghana and Peru
  • Target Group: Non-professional artists aged 15 to 25 years.
  • Contest Categories: * Paintings
    • Drawings and Pencil work
    • Sculpture and other visual art forms

Strict Contest Rules:

  • All artworks must be completely original, handmade, and not AI-generated.
  • Pieces must not have been previously published or submitted to other contests.
  • Shortlisted works must be submitted physically (framed or packaged appropriately) directly to the Embassy.

 

   

Submission Requirements & Process:

  • Initial Submission: All initial entries must be submitted electronically via email to ghanaperuartcontest@gmail.com.
  • Image Quality: The digital image of the artwork submission must not exceed 500 dpi.

Judging Criteria:

The esteemed panel of judges will evaluate all submissions based on three core pillars:

  1. Relation to the theme
  2. Creativity
  3. Originality

Rewards & Recognition:

A winner will be selected from each of the three categories.

  • Category Winners (3): Will each receive USD 300, a Certificate, and an authentic Peruvian Handicraft.
  • The Overall Winner: Selected from the three category winners, the overall champion will receive an additional USD 200.
  • Honorable Mentions (6): Awarded to two standout participants from each category.
