ACCRA, GHANA — Renowned Pan-African Art Ambassador, production designer, and visual artist Prince Kojo-Hilton recently paid an inspiring courtesy call to Professor Samuel Menassah Yirenkyi, the current Rector of the University of Media, Arts and Communication – Institute of Film and Television (UniMAC-IFT, formerly NAFTI). Returning to his roots as a proud alumnus and beneficiary of the institution, Kojo-Hilton shared the global milestones of his recent creative journey.

During the meeting, he presented the official report of his groundbreaking six-month creative institutions tour and masterclass project across Brazil, an initiative driven by his flagship program, Global Visual Arts for Screen and Stage (GVASS). The GVASS project is dedicated to bridging the gap between foundational visual arts training and industry-ready practice within contemporary film and theater ecosystems. While touring Brazil, Kojo-Hilton hosted technical masterclasses at premier institutions like the Zion School of Entertainment and Casa das Artes de Laranjeiras, showcasing specialized expertise in scenography, spatial design, and set construction.

A Symbolic Homecoming and Global Honor

A major highlight of the visit was the presentation of a global honor bestowed upon Kojo-Hilton at the CUFA Global 2025 conference (World Forum of Favelas) held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Kojo-Hilton shared a proud handshake with Professor Yirenkyi while presenting the award, symbolizing a bridge between the institution’s rich heritage and international creative success.

Strengthening Institutional Ties and Future Collaboration

The strategic dialogue between the Rector and the international art director focused heavily on creating forward-thinking pathways for the next generation of African filmmakers and visual artists:

  • Empowering Local Talent: Discussed leveraging the GVASS framework to expand hands-on technical capacity building for current UniMAC-IFT students.
  • Global Promotion: Formulated strategies for joint outreach programs designed to promote UniMAC-IFT’s academic excellence and creative programs to a global audience.
  • Elevating African Narratives: Explored collaborative opportunities to position African narrative design at the center of international theater and film networks.

“Returning home to UniMAC-IFT to present this report and award is deeply meaningful to me,” Prince Kojo-Hilton remarked. “This institution poured into my early creative vision. Bringing this global impact back to where it all started ensures that our current students see exactly how far their artistry and technical skills can take them on the world stage.”

Professor Yirenkyi warmly commended Kojo-Hilton’s tireless dedication to raising the profile of African visual arts globally. The Rector expressed enthusiastic support for the proposed collaboration, reinforcing UniMAC-IFT’s commitment to celebrating its alumni while fostering world-class industry exposure for its students.
